What Does a Pathologist Do?
The role of pathologists is vital in diagnosing and managing diseases and health issues on a daily basis. In a medical laboratory, they usually don't meet patients face-to-face since they work behind the scenes. A pathologist interprets diagnostic lab tests and performs some of the following expert functions:
- Managing hospital laboratories and clinical facilities.
- Interpreting the results of laboratory tests.
- Serving as a medical treatment advisor to ordering physicians as well as assisting them with patient care decisions.
- Performing a blood chemistry analysis and assessing the cells for abnormalities.
- By performing fine needle aspirations on lymph nodes, thyroid glands, etc., look for malignancies.
- Anatomical examination of tissue samples obtained during surgery with the help of a microscope.
- Identifying cancerous samples and recommending surgery based on the results of the an
- Perform blood sugar tests on diabetic patients to determine their medication dosage.r tests.
- Pre-cancerous lesions and cervical cancer can be detected with pap smears.
- Through autopsy, disease is identified, and the cause, manner, and mechanism of death are confirmed.
